Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect,side-effect,safety and complications of uterine artery embolization(UAE)for the treatment of adenomyosis. Methods UAE was performed in 48 patients with adenomyosis by Seldinger's method,The embolic agent was polyvinyl alcohol particles(PVA).The effects of the treatment and the levels of sexual hormone were evaluated before UAE and 1,3,6 months after UAE.Results The symptom of dysmenorrhea were alleviated in all cases. There were significantly difference in score of pain and activity degree between before and after UAE(P0.01).The menstrual blood volume significantly decreased than that before UAE(P0.01).The volume of localized lesions was decreased by 65.2%(from 139.8±61.5 to 48.7±19.2,P0.01).The hemoglobin concentration of the patients with anemia was significantly increased or restored to normal after the surgery. There was no significant difference in ovarian function(value of FSH,E2 and menstrual cycle)before and after UAE.Conclusions UAE is a new,less-trauma,safe,effective,less-complications and short-time recovery therapeutic methods with satisfied midterm clinical effects for patients with adenomyosis.
