Incidence of Adenomyosis and its association with other benign lesions in Hysterectomy with BSO.
This study found adenomyosis in 39.6% of hysterectomy specimens with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, frequently co-occurring with ovarian cysts.

This prospective cross-sectional pathology study assessed 53 hysterectomy specimens with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy collected in 2016, using gross examination and hematoxylin and eosin staining to identify adenomyosis and co-existing benign lesions. Adenomyotic foci were found in 39.6% of cases, with patients having a mean age of 40 years. Co-existing benign lesions were reported, with ovarian cysts (57.1%) most frequent, followed by endometrial polyps/adenomyomatous polyps (19%) and leiomyomas (9.5%), while 14.2% had adenomyosis alone. The study’s main limitation is that it is based on a relatively small, single-center sample from a single year. Relevance to endometriosis: The paper is centrally about adenomyosis — it evaluates adenomyosis incidence and associated benign lesions in hysterectomy with BSO.
