Abstract

Cancers and infertility are the major diseases causing significant impact on women’s physical and mental health. Every year, the number of women affected by these diseases is increasing. Breast, ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers are the primary women cancers, which contribute significantly to the deaths of millions of women worldwide. In addition, female infertility, also known as endometriosis, is a major cause of mental health problems in women, as around 30% of infertility is because of a problem with the woman. Therefore, these diseases are creating an ever-increasing burden. As these diseases are specific to women or related to gynaecology, exploration of common genetic mechanisms can be useful for their efficient management. Over the years, numerous clinical studies had been undertaken on these women-specific diseases and showed symptomological association between infertility and cancers. Yet, the genetic relationship among women-specific cancers and infertility is still unclear. This thesis study used an integrated investigation (bioinformatic and genomic) to identify and explain the common genetic mechanisms across women cancers and associated infertility.
