Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance studies reveal a transition in inhibition mechanism, with chain-length, which was partly captured in gravimetric tests. Phase angle of Bode plot shows a clear signature for onset of impervious film formation. Unlike the lower homologues, DBTU being the best inhibitor, induces a negative charge on iron surface in the reducing acid environment. Understanding the role and contribution of alkyl chains to inhibition would take us one step closer to the easier design of efficient inhibitors, which is the intention of this work. (uniform-localised-uniform) phenomena, besides the increased inhibition with concentration and chain-length. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance studies reveal a transition in inhibition mechanism, with chain-length, which was partly captured in gravimetric tests. Phase angle of Bode plot shows a clear signature for onset of impervious film formation. Unlike the lower homologues, DBTU being the best inhibitor, induces a negative charge on iron surface in the reducing acid environment.
