Design: Cross-sectional questionnaire survey. Setting: Obstetric and midwifery services across Wales. Methods: An anonymous electronic survey was distributed to obstetricians and midwives using the Wales Information System for the Dissemination of Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Midwifery Material (WISDOM), and via the Heads of Midwifery network. Respondents compared two structured communication formats presenting identical clinical information in different orders: SBAR and BLUF. Results: A total of 114 clinicians responded (72% midwives; 28% doctors). Overall, 74% considered BLUF a more effective communication tool in emergencies, and 69% reported they would prefer to use BLUF. Among consultants, 93% favoured BLUF. Conclusions: BLUF was preferred over SBAR and was perceived as more effective for communicating obstetric emergencies. Delivering the key recommendation upfront may improve clinical escalation in time-critical contexts. Further research is needed to evaluate clinical outcomes associated with BLUF in healthcare communication.
