Comparison of pre-operative inflammation parameters of adenomyosis and leiomyoma patients after hysterectomy
This study found that mean platelet volume and neutrophil count were higher in patients with leiomyoma compared to adenomyosis before hysterectomy.

This retrospective study evaluated pre-operative complete blood count (CBC) inflammation-related parameters in 640 patients with histopathologically confirmed adenomyosis (n=247) or leiomyoma (n=393) after hysterectomy, comparing white blood cell count, neutrophil/lymphocyte and platelet/lymphocyte ratios, platelet count, platelet distribution width, mean platelet volume, plateletcrit, and neutrophil measures. The authors found no between-group differences for white cells and platelet count, platelet distribution width, plateletcrit, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, or neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. Mean platelet volume and neutrophil counts (neutrophilia percentage) were significantly higher in the leiomyoma group than in the adenomyosis group. The paper’s main caveat is that it is based on retrospective chart review and concludes that results need support from prospective controlled studies. This paper is centrally about adenomyosis—specifically comparing pre-operative inflammatory CBC parameters between adenomyosis and leiomyoma patients.
