Abstract

Objective:To investigate the relevance between the clinical characteristics of female infertility and endometrial polyps, and to provide the basis for clinical treatment of infertility. Methods:Clinical data of 244 infertility patients who had laparoscopy and hysteroscopy surgeries in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from November 2008 to October 2009 were analyzed, including age, duration of infertility, laparoscopic pelvic disease and pregnancy history and the incidence of endometrial polyps. The diagnostic consistency of endometrial polyps by B-ultrasonic or by hysteroscopy was analyzed. Results:Patients' age and pelvic inflammatory diseases in different groups had no significant impacts on the incidence of endometrial polyps(P0.05).But the duration of infertility, history of pregnancy and endometriosis were correlated with the incidence of endometrial polyps. With the elongation of duration of infertility, the incidence of endometrial polyps increased accordingly(P=0.034).The incidence of polyps in the primary infertility group was higher than that in the secondary infertility group(15.71% vs 5.8%,P=0.016).Patients with endometriosis had a higher incidence rate of polyps than without endometriosis(19.0% vs 7.5%,P=0.007).Hysteroscopy had higher positive rate of polyps than B-ultrasound(11.5% vs 6.6%,P=0.000).Conclusions:The incidence of endometrial polyps is correlated with the duration, causes of infertility and pregnancy history.B-ultrasound combined with hysteroscopy is an effective method to exclude endometrial polyps.
