Thong2; 1Ho Chi Minh/VN, 2Ha Noi/VN DOI: 10.1594/ecr2018/C-0237 Aims and objectives The presence of transverse or longitudinal abdominal scars in the sonication beam path is still considered to be one of the limiting factors as their appearance might increase the risk of skin and scar burns during the high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation. Our aim was to compare the immediate non perfused volume (NPV) ratio, the complication rate, the adenomyosis volume reduction ratio, the transformed symptom severity score (tSSS) improvement at follow-up between patients with transverse and longitudinal scar patients groups using scar-patch in magnetic resonance guided...

Methods

and materials 20 women (38.2±5.1 years) who underwent MR-HIFU ablation were divided into 2 groups: the transverse scar group (N=10) and longitudinal scar group (N=10). The immediate NPV ratio, adenomyosis volume reduction ratio and tSSS at 6 months follow-up were accessed. All complications and adverse events were investigated during ablation procedure and follow-up period

Results

The volume of adenomyosis was 102.1ml ± 50.4 (57.0-162.0 ml) for the transverse scar group and 101.3ml ± 48.8 (46-152 ml) for the longitudinal scar group. The mean transverse and longitudinal scar size in length were 126.5 mm ± 49.2 and 111.8 mm ± 32.8, respectively. The NPV ratio was 72.1% ± 15.1 (57.5-100 %) in the transverse scar group and 69.4% ± 13.4 (58.5-100%) in the longitudinal scar group (p>0.05). The volume reduction ratio follow-up was 24.0% ± 18.2 (-4.5%-39.8%) for transverse scar group...

Conclusion

Our findings revealed no difference in treatment outcome between two groups. Therefore, we suggest that the scar-patch could be served efficiently in MR-HIFU treatment of adenomyosis patients with transverse and longitudinal abdominal scars.
