Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS, trade name-Mirena) in the treatment of adenomyosis. Methods We observed the menstrual volume, the volume of uterus, endometrial thickness and adverse reactions of 75 patients with adenomyosis before and after treatment with LNG-IUS.Results Compared with before treatment with LNG-IUS,the dysmenorrheal was relieved or disappeared, the menstrual volume was reduced, and the endometrium became thinner after LNG-IUS treatment, and the efficacy maintained 4 years, and the difference was statistically significant(P 0.01); the uterine volume was reduced, but there was no difference between them(P 0.05);the main adverse reactions were spotting and irregular bleeding, which can be accepted after a detailed explanation to patients; other adverse reactions included IUD ring down shifting and doffing, and weight gain. Conclusion LNG-IUS is an effective, safe and practical treatment with high compliance for patients with adenomyosis, so it is worth the clinical promotion.
