Abstract

EnglishEndometriosis is a chronic and frequent pathology that affects 10-15% of women and is characterized by the implantation of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. The lesions are mostly located on the ovaries and the peritoneal surface, and may appear in other areas of the body. The etiology is not yet known, but several theories are being considered, including that of retrograde menstruation, that of coelomic metaplasia or that of induction. It is usually associated, among other symptoms, with pelvic pain, dyspareunia and infertility., But more symptoms may appear which makes the diagnosis difficult Its diagnosis is usually made by clinical suspicion but it is not until a histological study is performed through a laparoscopic procedure that it is confirmed. In our culture, treatment consists of pain control with analgesics, hormonal therapy or even surgery, having seen secondary effects as a result of these treatments. For this reason, complementary and alternative therapies are increasingly being used to manage symptoms without these unwanted effects appearing. These therapies range from proper nutrition, herbal or dietary supplements to acupuncture.
