Abstract
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting approximately 10–15% of women of reproductive age, characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. This study aims to analyze how endometriosis impacts the physical and mental health of women through a literature review based on scientific sources published in the last ten years. The rationale for this study lies in the high prevalence of the disease, the suffering associated with physical and emotional symptoms, and the need to broaden the understanding of its impacts to support more effective care practices. The results indicate that endometriosis causes intense chronic pelvic pain, significantly interfering with the quality of life of patients. The psychological impact includes the development of anxiety, depression, and social isolation, with more than 80% of women with chronic pain presenting depressive symptoms. Late diagnosis—which can take between 7 and 10 years—aggravates both physical and emotional symptoms. It is evident that a multidisciplinary approach, involving gynecologists, psychologists, nutritionists, and physiotherapists, is essential for a more complete and effective treatment. It is concluded that endometriosis transcends the physical dimension, requiring comprehensive attention to psychosocial aspects to ensure a better quality of life for patients.
