Abstract
Objective To investigate the leptin levels in serum and peritoneal fluid(PF)from patients with adenomyosis and its role in the pathogenesis of adenomyosis. Methods The levels of leptin in serum and PF from 40 patients with adenomyosis(test group)and 30 patients without adenomyosis(control group) were detected by a method of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The relations of leptin to dysmenorrheal were analyzed. Results The leptin levels in serum from patients with adenomyosis had no significant difference compared with controls(0.37±0.12 ng/mL,0.36±0.14 ng/mL respectively)(P0.05).The leptin Levels in PF were significantly higher in patients with adenomyosis than those in control group(0.85±0.22 ng/mL,0.72±0.21 ng/mL respectively)(P0.05).The leptin levels in PF of the patients with both symptomatic and asymptomatic adenomyosis were significantly higher than those in controls(0.86±0.23 ng/mL,0.85±0.20 ng/mL,0.72±0.21 ng/mL respectively)(P0.05).However,PF leptin levels were not correlated with the existence of dysmenorrheal.(P0.05).Conclusion PE leptin levels increase in patients with adenomyosis, which suggests that change of leptin levels in PF may play a role in the pathogenesis of adenomyosis. But they have no correlation with the dysmenorrheal, which suggests that this cytokine is not involved in pathophysiology of endometriosis-related dysmenorrhea.
