Abstract

Objective:To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis(EMs).Methods:A total of 60 specimens of endometriosis and 30 specimens of the normal controls were evaluated by immunohistological technique with polyclonal antibody against VEGF..Results:The expression levels of VEGF in ectopic and eutopic endometrium tissues was significantly higher than that in the normal endometrium(P0.001).Compared with eutopic endometrium,the expression of VEGF in ectopic endometrium showed no significance(P0.05).No cyclic variation was observed in ectopic and normal endometrium.However,VEGF content was found to be higher in ectopic endometrium during secretory phase than that during proliferative phase.Conclusion:VEGF was over expressed in endometriotic tissues. There was the closed relationship between VEGF and endometriosis angiogenesis.VEGF could play an important role in the progression of endometriosis.
