Adenomatoid tumor of uterus and fallopian tube:a clinical-pathological analysis of 33 cases

Objective To study the histogenesis and the clinical-pathological characteristics of adenomatoid tumors in uterus and fallopian tube.Methods Clinical pathological data of 33 cases of adenomatoid tumor were analyzed retrospectively in the Department of Pathology,Peking University People's Hospital from March,2005 to December,2008. The immunohistochemistry staining was performed through EnVision method. Results Among the 33 cases,thirty-one were adenomatoid tumor of uterus,two were that of fallopian tube. The tumors were located in subserosa or lied in the wall of uterus. The grew patterns were nodular in 32 cases with the diameter ranged from 1 cm to 5cm and diffuse pattern with infarction in 1 pregnant patient. It can occur simultaneously with uterus leiomyoma (19/33,58%),adenomyosis (6/33,18%) or both of them (2/33,6%). Four cases accompany with ovarian teratoma(12%). 3 cases presented adenomatoid tumors only(9%). Histologically,the tumor was composed of gland-like structure with variable size and irregular morphology,surrounded by proliferative smooth muscle cells. Immunohistochemical staining showed that tumor cells in 33 cases were positive for Calretinin(100%) and CK(100%),negative for CD34(0%). Conclusions Adenomatoid tumors origin from mesothelial cell,which commonly located in the uterus. Immunohistochemical staining for CK and Calretinin is helpful for diagnosis. The biological behavior is benign.
