Abstract

In the present, the design and construction of high rise buildings against lateral loading are often equipped with suitable isolation techniques and use of dampers to terminate excess amount of responses in the building. The use of such techniques on the existing buildings is found to be effective in their performance. In this paper buildings of varying height with the different configurations based on the location and number of damper are modelled for the seismic analysis (response spectrum analysis). The results have shown that it is not only the number of dampers but also the position of dampers that contributes in the response reduction.
