Abstract
Objective: To explore the expression of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and its receptor c-Met and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in the eutopic endometrium of endometriosis and the relationship among them in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods: The Streptavidin-Peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of HGF, c-Met and MMP-2 in the eutopic endometrium of 45 women with pelvic endometriosis and 30 controls. Results: The expressions of HGF, c-Met and MMP 2 were higher in the eutopic endometrium of patients with pelvic endometriosis than in those in controls with significant differences (all P<0.01). Positive correlations were observed among these markers in the endometrium of women with and without endometriosis (all P<0.01). Conclusion: The high expression of HGF, c-Met and MMP-2 in the eutopic endometrium of patients with pelvic endometriosis may be involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
