Abstract
Objective: To study the effect of shikonin on expression of vascular endothelial growth factor in SCID endometriosis models, thus exploring the potential mechanism of shikonin on therapy of endometriosis. Methods: SCID endometriosis models were established and randomly divided into five groups: high-dose shikonin group,middle-dose shikonin group,low-dose shikonin group,PBS negative control group and Diphereline-treated positive control group. The VEGF in human endometrium transplanted into SCID mice was measured by means of immunohistochemisty before and after drug treatment. Results: Various doses of shikonin could inhibit the expression of VEGF.High-and middle-dose group had significant difference compared with negative group (P 0.05) ,whereas had no obvious difference compared with Diphereline-treated group (P 0.05).Conclusion: Shikonin may treat EMs by way of suppressing angiopoiesis in ectopic endometrium and preventing its implantation and growth.
