Abstract

Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR TB) remains a huge problem in Indonesia.Although fatal outcome is possible in few patients, there are still limited studies on cardiovascular adverse events in Indonesia. Our hospital implements short term regimen (STR) since 2016.Therefore, it is important to evaluate cardiovascular adverse events in each DR TB centre to improve patients' management. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study among DR TB outpatients at Persahabatan Hospital who received STR from August 2019 to January 2021.We evaluated cardiovascular adverse events based on QTc prolongation from patients' monthly ECG.Grading adverse events severity using common terminology criteria for adverse events (CTCAE) version 5. Results: A total of 62 patients recruited, with median age 37 (18-69) years old, predominantly males (67.7%) and most of them experienced electrolyte imbalance (62.9%).Cardiovascular adverse events occurred in 43.5% patients, with median onset 61 days, and 77.8% had mild QTc prolongation.Among the mild QTc prolongation patients, 66.7% of which succeeded their treatment. One patient died due to severe QTc prolongation.
