Treatment of Adenomyosis by Uterine Arterial Embolization: Report of 45 Cases

Abstract

Objective:To assess the clinical effects of uterine arterial embol ization(UAE) on adenomyosis.Methods:The 5.0F cobra or 3.0 FASTRCKER-325 was placed into the double uterine arteries which be then injected particulate KM G embolization for treatment of adenomyosis in 45 patients. In the 1st?2nd?3rd ?6th?9th and 12th month after the operation, menstrual volume and duration, degree of dysmenorrhea, uterine volume, anemia, and serum CA 125 levels were investigated. Results:The menstrual cycle,duration,and volume retumed to normal after 6 month of thera py.After UAE, the complete re mission of dysmenorrhea was found in 39 patients, partial remission in 6 cases. The bodies of uterus reduced about 41.3% in average. The serum CA 125 levels declined rapidly to normal or close to normal in one month after treatment of UAE, there was asignificant difference compared to pre-operation (P0.001). Conclusions: UAE is a safe, confirmed and satisfactory method for treatment of aden om yosis.
