This brief commentary highlights the diagnostic challenges associated with endometriosis in adolescents, noting that severe dysmenorrhea often goes unrecognized for years due to the reliance on laparoscopy as the gold standard. It discusses how magnetic resonance imaging can serve as a valuable non-invasive tool to identify ovarian endometriomas and deep infiltrating lesions when clinical suspicion is high. The text emphasizes the importance of early detection through advanced imaging techniques to potentially improve outcomes for young patients suffering from these symptoms. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically focusing on its diagnosis via MRI in teenagers presenting with severe dysmenorrhea.
