Abstract
Colposcopy as a procedure plays a vital role in the prevention of cervical cancer but also in the detection of lesions throughout the woman's inferior genital system and in the postoperative follow-up of patients at high risk for relapses.
However, it has been shown that colposcopy is a medical procedure that causes anxiety, discomfort and moderate pain in patients during its conduct. Pain experienced during colposcopy and prolonged feeling of anxiety are both factors of poor compliance in patient monitoring.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a dosage of 1000 mg of paracetamol, half an hour before conducting a diagnostic colposcopy, would affect to a certain extent the discomfort or pain levels of gynecological patients. The 112 patients who participated in the study were asked to respond to a questionnaire created solely for the purposes of this study.
As for the feeling of discomfort and stress were not observed differences among the population of women who received paracetamol and those belonging to the control group, and did not take any painkiller, while for the pain slight differences were observed.
