Abstract
Objectives To investigate the expression of substance P(SP)and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)in adenomyosis tissues and in eutopic endometrium. Methods Immunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin peroxidase was applied to compare the expressions of SP and CGRP between ectopic lesions and eutopic endometrium from 19 patients with adenomyosis and 22 normal controls. Results SP and CGRP expressed in both endometrial glands and vascular endothelial cells. The expressions of SP and CGRP in ectopic lesions showed no statistic difference with those of eutopic endometrium and normal control.Neither eutopic endometrium nor normal control showed cyclic variation of SP and CGRP expressions.Expressions of SP and CGRP were not related to the intensity of the pain in patients with adenomyosis. Conclusions Both SP and CGRP expressed in endometrial glands and were not related to the pain in patients with adenomyosis.
