MRI Diagnosis of uterine adenomyosis

Objective To study the MRI features and its diagnostic value of uterine adenomyosis.Methods MRI features of 26 cases of uterine adenomyosis proved by surgery and pathology were reviewed and correlated with manifestations.Results MRI and pathology were highly consistent.ten diffuse uterine adenomyosis showed diffusely thickened junctional zone(JZ)on T2WI.Sixteen focal uterine adenomyosis displayed hypo-intensive masses like the intensity of JZ on T2WI.The hypo-intensive lesions in 26 cases corresponded to the hyperplastic and hypertrophic musculature,and the hyper-intensive foci within the hypo-intensive lesions were the heterotopic endometrial islands.Conclusion MRI is a very helpful modality in the diagnosis and localization of adenomyosis.It is very useful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
