Abstract
Objective:To study the diagnostic value of MRI in uterine adenomyosis. Methods: MRI examination was performed on 32 cases with pathologically proven uterine adenomyosis. Results: Fifteen diffuse uterine adenomyoses showed diffusely thickened junctional zone (JZ) on T 2WI. Seventeen focal uterine adenomyoses displayed hypo-intensive masses like the intensity of JZ on T 2WI, and all but one showed ill-defined margins. The hypo-intensive lesions in 32 cases corresponded to the hyperplastic and hypertrophic musculature, and the hyper-intensive foci within the hypo-intensive lesions were the heterotopic endometrial islands. Conclusion: MRI is very useful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of uterine adenomyosis.
