Abstract

Disorders of the musculoskeletal elements interconnecting the female pelvic girdle and lumbosacral spine are commonly found in patients with symptomatic chronic pelvic pain. This chapter links the known anatomy and pathophysiology to an understanding of how to rationally diagnose and treat disorders such as levator ani syndrome, trigger points, and pudendal neuralgia that all may interplay with common visceral disorders such as endometriosis, irritable bowel syndrome, and painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis.
