The anti-hypoxia protective effect of WYY026B by combining with red blood cells

Abstract

The improvement of the endurance of humans in resisting hypoxia and reducing hypoxia‑induced organ damage is an urgent problem to be solved. In this study, WYY026B has anti-hypoxia effect and alleviates brain injury induced by ischemic, which is a small molecule compound. Moreover, we found that WYY026B increased oxygen content of blood under hypoxia stress. Red blood cells (RBCs) have the characteristic of transporting oxygen to all tissues in the body through hemoglobin. A series of tests in vitro revealed that WYY026B could combine with RBCs. And immunofluorescence assays showed that WYY026B bonded to the erythrocyte membrane and can enter the RBCs. These results can hint that WYY026B enhances the ability of RBCs to carry oxygen by interacting with RBCs. This provides theoretical basis for elaborating the anti-hypoxia protection of WYY026B in myocardial ischemia, cerebral ischemia and altitude hypoxia injury.
