Supply Chain Ecosystem for Smart Sustainable City Multifloor Manufacturing Cluster: Knowledge Management Based on Open Innovation and Energy Conservation Policies

Abstract
City manufacturing (CM) has become a key concept in the field of smart sustainable city, and city multifloor manufacturing clusters (CMFMCs) are an integral part of large cities and megapolises. Despite the growing attention to the development of smart sustainable CMFMCs, there is still a significant research gap in understanding the innovation activities of different actors in their supply chain ecosystems (SCEs). To address this gap, this paper examines the SCE of a CMFMC and knowledge management (KM) mechanisms in open innovation (OI) with consideration of energy conservation (EC) policies in CMFMC. This qualitative study expanded the understanding of the spatial configuration and key actors of the SCE of a CMFMC, the role of its physical orchestrator as a service represented by the University Centre for Projects and Innovation (UCPI) in bolstering and boosting innovation activity through KM based on OI and EC. We identify barriers in the imple-mentation of KM in the SCE within OI and EC concept, and examine the role of the UCPI in overcoming them. Our findings contribute to the literature on SCE by emphasizing the need to use the potential of its key actors and an integrated approach in KM based on OI and EC to enhance innovation in CMFMCs as part of the implementation of sustainable development of smart cities.
