A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Aroma Therapy on Sleep Quality Among Elderly at Selected Old Age Home, Meerut

Statement of the Problem: A study to evaluate the effectiveness of aroma therapy on sleep quality among elderly at selected old age home, Meerut. Objectives: 1- To assess the sleep quality in the experimental and control group. 2- To evaluate the effectiveness of aroma therapy on sleep quality in experimental group. 3- To compare the post-test score on sleep quality in experimental and control group. 4- To find out the association between the pre-test score on sleep quality with their selected demographic variables. Methods: : A quasi experimental study was conducted on 60 old age people, 30 in experimental group and 30 in control group selected by purposive sampling technique having kept the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Demographic variables were used to collect the data applying one group pre-test and post-test design. The tools used for this study was Standardized the Groningen Sleep Quality Scale for assessing the level of sleep quality in old age people and its demographic variables. Results: : Finding of the study reveals that aromatherapy was effective to increase the level of sleep quality among elderly in experimental group in pre test results shows that majority of samples 26(87%) had poor sleep, and 4 (13%) had good sleep. In post-test data represented that majority of samples 27(90%) had good sleep and 03 (10%) had poor sleep. Conclusion: The results and findings of this study shows that aromatherapy is very effective and significant to increase the level of sleep quality among elderly admitted in selected old age home, Meerut.
