Abstract

Objective: To investigate the angiogenesic difference of the eutopic endometrium with and without endometriosis, and the significance of microvessel density(MVD) in eutopic endometrium with endometriosis. Methods: A total of 80 specimens of eutopic and ectopic endometrium were evaluated by immunohistologically staining to detect CD34 antigen, and 31 specimens of normal endometrium were used as control. Results: The expression of CD34 antigen was stained in membrane or cytoplasm of stromal vessel endothelial cells. The value of MVD was significantly increased in eutopic endometrium with endometriosis either menstrual proliferation or secretory phase compared with that of control(P 0.01). The value of MVD in eutopic and ectopic endometrium with endometriosis was positively correlated with clinical stage(P 0.01). Conclusion: Angiogenesis plays an important role in endometriosis. The value of MVD in eutopic endometrium with endometriosis could be used to diagnose endometriosis.
