Abstract

Abstract Purpose: The aim of this study is to systematically review and synthesize the existing body of literature on social impact assessment (SIA). This involves identifying trends, methodological approaches and their evaluation through the past 50 years. The study also examines the process and gaps in previous research. Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a systematic review methodology, as outlined by numerous researchers, to ensure a rigorous and comprehensive synthesis of existing research on social impact assessment. This approach involves several key steps. First, a structured search of academic databases such as Scopus and Web of Science will be conducted to identify relevant peer-reviewed articles. Findings: This systematic review reveals that social impact assessment methodologies have evolved over time, with highlight to the main sub-topics discussed within the scientific community, identifying gaps in previous research, and suggesting directions for future studies. Originality/value: This paper examines a diverse range of studies across various frameworks and methodologies to provide a comprehensive synthesis of literature on SIA, emphasizing the shifts in both theory and application. This work is unique in bridging established and emerging trends while addressing critical gaps in literature, it can be considered as a compass for researchers and practitioners who wants to search deeply on the subject based on what has been written and the sources that have been mentioned. Paper type: research paper.
