Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the molecular mechanisms by measuring the gene expression of Survivin and Cox-2 which occur in patients with endometriosis(EMS) and to investigate their effects on the initiation and maintenance of EMS.Methods:The ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium were obtained from 20 patients with EMS(cases) and from 20 normal endometrium. The mRNA expression of Survivin and Cox-2 were measured by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results:Compared to normal endometrium, the mRNA level of Survivin of ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium significantly increased, the mRNA level of Cox-2 was significantly increased also; The total mRNA level of Survivin and Cox-2 was negatively correlated with EMS,and their correlation was obvious. Conclusion:EMS is predominantly accompanied by abnormal regulation in the mRNA expression influencing the Survivin and Cox-2,which are associated with occurrence and development of EMS and may influence the initiation and maintenance of EMS.
