Abstract

Endometriosis and mature cystic teratoma are two common diseases of ovary , but their co-existence is extremely rare. Here we report two cases with review of the literature. Our first patient was a 42- years-old woman with co-existent mature cystic teratoma and endometriosis in the same ovary, and the second was a 25-years-old woman with unilateral mature cystic teratoma with bilateral ovarian endometriosis. The clinical symptom was pelvic pain in both patients. Cystic, hypoechoic masses were identified in the ovaries by ultrasonography. Laparoscopic cystectomy for the first, laparotomic right oophorectomy and left ovarian cystectomy for the second patient was performed. Histological examination of the specimens revealed endometrial-type epithelium lined cysts with endometrial stromal cells and hemosiderin-laden macrophages, and mature cystic teratomas lined by keratinized squamous epithelium with hair, skin appendages and different tissues in the wall. Patients were followedup with oral contraceptive treatment. The diseases did not recurred so far.
