Abstract

Objective: Endometriosis represents a public health challenge, particularly in Réunion Island, which has the highest incidence rate in France. Given the limitations of conventional medical management, this study aimed to explore the place of non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) in the care pathway for patients with endometriosis in Réunion. Methods: Two qualitative studies were conducted using a grounded theory approach, based on individual semi-structured interviews. The target populations included physicians and NPI practitioners. Verbatim analysis, carried out through coding, allowed for the identification of key concepts and the development of an explanatory model of the findings. Results: Ten interviews were conducted in each group. The discussions highlighted the perceptions of physicians and NPI practitioners regarding endometriosis and the complexities of its management. While the potential benefits of NPIs were acknowledged, numerous barriers were identified, including organizational challenges and a lack of information or adherence. Among NPI practitioners, their interests and challenges, particularly regarding integration into the care pathway, were documented. Suggestions for improvement, such as establishing a coordinated multidisciplinary network, were also proposed. Conclusion: These findings provide a deeper understanding of the role and significance of NPIs in the comprehensive and complementary care required for endometriosis management.
