Dolor pélvico asociado con endometriosis: evidencia para una asociación entre el estado de la enfermedad y una historia de dolor pélvico crónico
This study found that pelvic pain associated with endometriosis often persists throughout reproductive years, and the stage of the disease at diagnosis correlates with pain severity during follow-up.

This historical prospective study evaluated 48 women with endometriosis that had been classified endoscopically and who had chronic pelvic pain, all of whom underwent conservative medical or surgical treatment in a tertiary care center. Using a questionnaire, investigators recorded the disease status, pelvic area involved, and the severity and location of each patient’s worst pelvic pain during follow-up after an average of 15.7 ± 3.1 years since initial diagnosis. While 43.8% reported no pain at follow-up, among the 27 with persistent pain, 78% identified the same worst-pain location as at diagnosis, and disease status at diagnosis was significantly associated with higher pain severity at follow-up. The paper’s limited sample size and nonrandomized historical design are implied caveats, and it remains focused specifically on associations between long-term pain patterns and endometriosis disease status. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it examines how endometriosis disease state relates to the persistence and localization of chronic pelvic pain over reproductive years.
