Abstract

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a ravaging pandemic that has killed thousands of people worldwide. One way by which a person gets infected is through contact with the virus through an infected person directly or indirectly. Social distancing as a preventive measure has been highlighted by World Health Organization (WHO) with other several measures. Social distancing technique is employed to achieve to a reliable extent the degree of proximity between people in the real-world environs. The social distancing caution device is designed to help users be conscious of keeping the appropriate social distance. Often times, people on the roadside pay attention to their front view and are not able to see or neglect what is going on behind them. The device will alert the person if someone is within the set distance of 3 meters around him. The method is reasonably accurate and can be very useful in maintaining social distancing. The device uses a proximity sensor (PIR) and a buzzer interfaced with a microcontroller which is activated when the set distance is reached. This could be worn as a belt, wristwatch or as a headwear. It is cost effective. It is tested and verified.
