Abstract

Abstract Healthcare is an inevitable part of people’s lives. Similar to any other industry, the health care industry relies heavily on data. The collected data provides credible information about patient history and medical progress, and hence predictability of the future behaviour of the disease. In blockchain, hospitals, medical research facilities, and medical experts are at the forefront and can analyse, treat, and mitigate many medical epidemics. In this paper, we proposed a novel blockchain-based Medical Prescription Data Preservation System (MPDPS). The system is designed to store the data in a centralised system and in the blockchain. Patients can store their prescription data in the MPDPS to avoid prescription fraud. To maintain the confidentially of data, we used a combination of symmetric (Advanced Encryption Standard) and asymmetric keys (elliptic-curve cryptography) and SHA256 hash. We used the Hyperledger Sawtooth platform to design the prototype of the MPDPS. The evaluation results demonstrate that the MPDPS can easily fulfil current requirements.
