This paper is a narrative review discussing classification, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of endometriosis, describing the disorder’s proposed origin and its association with pelvic pain and subfertility. It summarizes prevalence estimates, noting an approximate 10% prevalence in the general population and higher rates (30–40%) among symptomatic premenopausal women, and outlines theories such as ectopic implantation of menstrual tissue into the abdominal cavity via uterine tubes. It states that laparoscopy is considered the most preferable standard of diagnosis, supported by histological evaluation of surgical biopsies, and reviews prior history to illustrate the topic areas. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on advances and controversies in endometriosis classification, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment.

Laparoscopy is considered most preferable standard of diagnosis of endometriosis proved by the histological performances of surgical biopsies.
