Abstract
Endometriosis is a chronic gynaecological condition and this study aimed to identify the prevalence of perceived cognitive functioning difficulties in individuals living with endometriosis and the association of pain, fatigue and depression with these difficulties. Using a mixed methods design, data was collected through an online survey from individuals living with endometriosis (n=1239). It was found that on average, the sample reported impaired cognitive functioning and high levels of pain, fatigue and depression symptoms. Pain, fatigue and depression were all strongly associated with diminished perceived cognitive functioning. Qualitative accounts verified these findings. This mixed-methods study demonstrated that perceived cognitive difficulties are highly prevalent in individuals living with endometriosis. Endometriosis-related pain and fatigue and depressive symptoms were strongly associated with poorer cognitive functioning indicating that psychosocial intervention is warranted.
