Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic, progressive, and troublesome disease of women in the reproductive age group. The research today is focused mainly on etiopathogenesis of the disorder so that targeted treatment can be provided to the patients. In the past several decades, significant progress toward exposing the enigma associated with this disorder has been made. Still, many aspects of the disease are unclear. For example, can endometriosis be prevented or predicted? What triggers malignancy in endometriosis? The answers can only be provided if the mechanism of the disease is understood. A thorough understanding of the etiopathogenesis of endometriosis is essential for the development of newer diagnostic tests and effective treatments of the disease. Maybe it is a disease with several mechanisms of origin, several symptoms, and several treatments.
