Abstract

Just like many other countries, Nigeria is faced with numerous challenges in the deployment of 5G mobile wireless communication technology. These challenges over the years have affected the smooth rollout of this technology in the country and with the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), it has become pertinent to address these challenges with regards to infrastructure and consumer attitudes. In this essay, I discuss broadband infrastructure deployment, enabling environment, higher connection density investment environment, and enhanced electricity to tackle the new power supply demands. I present these strategies as solutions to four major problems that make the adoption of this new technology worrisome namely: Network security, health concerns, poor civil infrastructure, and device challenges.
