Abstract

More and more people are opting for DC systems and DC microgrids. Using Simulink, PVsyst and HOMER, this thesis proposes a way to express the feasibility of a DC-based PV system. A DC-based design is one of the goals of this project, which also seeks to analyze costs and discover the performance ratio. The cost-effectiveness, performance and advantages of the DC-based system will decide its practicality. Simulating DC-based PV systems is not a feature that many software packages provide. Among the several programs available for modeling PV systems, PVsyst stands out. There are certain architectural and voltage level restrictions, but it can model a DC-based PV system. We compute the efficiency ratio of the proposed DC system using the findings from Simulink, Homer and PVsyst because of these considerations. Modeling a DC-DC converter is an integral part of the DC system simulation. For microgrids of varying sizes, DC-DC converters are being studied for use in high-voltage direct current transmission. In Simulink, the boost converter from DC to DC is connected to an MPPT model. Because of its simplicity and widespread usage, the P and O algorithm is selected as the MPPT algorithm. The power output at the required voltage level of 350V is provided by the Simulink model of the PV array and MPPT powered boost converter. The output of HOMER is used as input to the Simulink model.
