Abstract

Abstract Background: This study aims to explore the effects of five tone music (FMT) combined with compound essential oil acupoint massage on postoperative negative emotions and sleep quality in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Methods: From January to July 2024, 86 patients undergoing their first lumbar fusion surgery were recruited and randomly divided into four groups using a random number table method. The groups were designated as the FMT group, the compound essential oil acupoint massage group, the combined therapy group, and the control group. The patients' scores on the Anxiety Scale (SAS), Depression Scale (SDS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain were recorded before and after the intervention. Results: The combined therapy group showed significant reductions in SAS, SDS, PSQI, and VAS scores compared to the other three groups, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: FMT combined with compound essential oil acupoint massage can effectively improve postoperative negative emotions, enhance sleep quality, and reduce postoperative pain in patients with lumbar disc herniation.
