Abstract

jsPsych is a useful open-source library for building browser-based behavioral experiments over the internet. However, vision science experiments involve unique considerations that are not well-accommodated by existing resources within jsPsych. In the present article, we provide a brief overview of our solutions to challenges such as response-dependent stimulus displays and accurate and flexible stimulus presentation within a web browser. Our solutions, which include freely-available functions and code accessible to other researchers, will focus on the jsPsych-JATOS workflow. The implementation of these solutions will allow vision scientists to make better use of jsPsych-JATOS and the benefits that it offers, including significant flexibility in hosting browser-based experiments in-house (i.e., without relying on a fee-for-service model) with broad compatibility across recruitment services (e.g., Amazon MTurk, SONA, and Prolific).
