Abstract

Endometriosis is a benign complex, estrogen-dependent, chronic inflammatory disease that affects 5%–10% of women of reproductive age (1–4). Endometriosis is characterized by the existence of ectopic endometrial-like tissue (stroma and glands) outside the uterus primarily in the pelvic area which is observed as ovarian cysts (endometrioma) and peritoneal and deep lesions (5, 6).
