Expression of mRNA-TLR-5 Gene in Patients with Endometriosis using Real-time PCR in Tehran, Iran

This study investigated mRNA expression of Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR-5) in women undergoing laparoscopic surgery in Tehran, Iran (2021), comparing ectopic endometrium from ovarian endometriotic cysts, eutopic endometrial mucosa, and normal endometrial samples from patients without infertility or endometriosis. After RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis, TLR-5 mRNA levels were measured using real-time PCR. TLR-5 expression was significantly higher in ectopic samples than in eutopic and control groups, with an additional significant difference between eutopic and control groups. The authors note the observed increase in ectopic TLR-5 expression may relate to reduced apoptosis and a microenvironment that supports survival and proliferation of cells in the peritoneal cavity, though no functional confirmation is described.
