Managerial competences and financial performance of savings and credit cooperatives in south western Uganda; A cross-sectional study.

Abstract This study assessed the relationship between managerial competencies and the financial performance of SACCOs in the Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. Questionnaires were given to 80 staffs and managers from 5 SACCOs in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. The response rate was 100% and analysis was done using SPSS version 22. The regression analysis revealed that, technical skills (β = 0.435, p < 0.001) and conceptual skills (β = 0.456, p < 0.001) had a positive significant contribution to the financial performance, while interpersonal skills (β = 0.109, p = 0.121) had no significant contribution. Managerial skills contributed 62.5% towards variations in financial performance (adjusted R2 = 0.625).
