Abstract

Abstract The development of instrumentation for the acoustic emission (AE) technique is presented here. The proposed system captures the AE signals of the damage source using WD piezoelectric sensors and stores the acquired data using an algorithm. The developed preamplifier amplifies the AE signals. The designed band-pass filter suppresses noise and passes data in a certain frequency range. This system also helps with the localization of structural damage. The applicability of this system has been experimentally studied on different structures with satisfactory performance. Also, it is compared with a commercially available AE system. This indigenously developed system is useful because of its cost-effectiveness, too.
