{"paper_id":"f85d1017-ec9c-4e34-8711-1f4d89c61b14","body_text":"Original Article\nImaging Spectrum of Endometriosis in the Asian Population: Role of MRI with Laparoscopic/Histopathological Correlation\nAbstract\n-\nBackground: The presence of endometrial tissue outside the endometrium is called endometriosis. Laparoscopy and biopsy are the gold standard for diagnosing endometriosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a crucial non-invasive diagnostic tool for endometriosis.\n-\nObjective: To determine the imaging spectrum of endometriosis in the Asian population with particular attention to the function of MRI correlated with laparoscopic and histopathological findings.\n-\nMethods: It was a retrospective observational study conducted in the radiology department of Shifa International Hospital from January 2021 to September 2023. There were 186 patients in the study population. Of these patients, only those who proceeded to laparoscopy/biopsy were included in the study (n=70). We included all of the patients who came for a pelvic MRI and had imaging and clinical signs of endometriosis who further proceeded with Laparoscopy and Biopsy.\n-\nResults: The mean age of the participants was 35.86 years. The majority of the patients (97.1%) were premenopausal. The most frequently involved site was the ovaries (85.7%). Eighty-seven percent of patients had T1 hyperintensity, and 89% had T2 shading or dark spots. About 84.3% of patients had an accurate MRI diagnosis of endometriosis. T1 hyperintensity was a statistically significant variable.\n-\nConclusion: According to this research, MRI is a reliable method for diagnosing endometriosis, given the higher concordance rate and, among other imaging variables, the T1 hyperintense signal of these lesions is statistically significant.\n- Keywords: Endometriosis, MRI pelvis, laparoscopy, histopathology, endometriomas.\nBack to All Articles","source_license":"CC0","license_restricted":false}
