Consequently, our treatment modalities have centered around relief of symptoms. It is difficult to stringently apply the principles of evidence-based medicine to this enigmatic disease because few randomized placebocontrolled studies have been published. The varied symptoms make uniform treatment algorithms impossible to follow.
