A thorough history, physical exam, and a strong index of suspicion are required for a timely diagnosis. A 6-month trial of NSAIDs and hormonal therapy are recommended prior to consideration of laparoscopy for a definitive diagnosis and surgical management of this chronic disease. An understanding of the variable appearance of endometriosis at the time of surgery is key to solidifying the diagnosis. Long-term hormonal therapy following confirmation and surgical management of endometriosis by a skilled gynecologist or pediatric surgeon is recommended to reduce risk of disease recurrence and progression.\nAccess this chapter\nTax calculation will be finalised at checkout\nPurchases are for personal use only\nSimilar content being viewed by others\nReferences\nNezhat C, Nezhat F, Nezhat C.
